Who we are

We are a lean team of guys (and girls) who’ve worked in some of the leading companies (Oracle, IBM, Cisco, InMobi) in the world over the past two decades, built businesses across the planet (Americas, Europe, Asia), built and managed teams across time zones (from PST to IST), survived the Internet bubble(s), operated in environments where we didn’t speak the language (Python or Portuguese) built startups from concept stages, failed, and dived in again to do another one.

In other words, we’ve been around, aren’t afraid to fail and are ready to take on the big guys in their own backyard…the Internet.

Our playground: the Internet

The role of technology in the travel domain is dramatically evolving and it’s ripe for disruption. The customer of an airline company is also the customer of a cab company, a hotel, a telecom service provider, a food & beverage company, an apparel company, a luggage company, a financial services company, an electronics retailer, an entertainment company and the list goes on. So many businesses trying to be relevant to the same traveler and the traveler having so much to choose from. All this in real time via the mobile internet.

Enter the world of ‘Big Data’. That’s the problem we are solving, in the travel context.

What we do

Identifying, capturing, storing, analyzing and applying data, in real time, using cloud-computing technologies. We provide the relevant information, in the right time in the right context and let the user act on it.

Essentially, we match demand and supply through our platform and let consumers connect with businesses. The airlines call it dbCommerce, the online travel agents call it mCommerce and we call it a business.

User Interface / Experience Designer a.k.a. ‘Moment of Truth’ Designer

Any consumer facing business’s success is based not just on the strength of the technology that enables it but the ease with which its users can do what the application promises.

Trotez, as a mobile-first business that is centered on knowing the user profile, their itinerary and the context of the environment they are in, relies on its ability to anticipate and address a user’s requirement with ease, simplicity and relevance. We are looking to create such a user experience through all our communication channels. Whether it’s a 4 inch screen on an iOS phone or a 7 inch screen on an Android tablet or a 17 inch screen on a Windows laptop. It necessarily needs to build an ‘emotional connect’ with the users and it’s what we refer to as our ‘Moment of Truth’.

Specifically, here are some of the things you should be able to do

  1. Demonstrate experience in designing pc web/tablet/mobile interfaces (using illustrator, photoshop, fireworks, etc.)

  2. Have deep knowledge of web and mobile usability guidelines

  3. Generate graphical representations that express relationships between data in a creative and rich visual language

  4. Explore new interaction models

  5. Define the information architecture and design language of products

  6. Come up with solutions that work within the technical constraints of the product

  7. Rationalize and articulate your design thinking

  8. Work collaboratively with engineers and product managers that have deep domain knowledge

Here are some other ‘good to have’ skills

  1. Use quick prototyping tools such as omnigraffle, pro, axure, balsamiq to create experience prototypes that can elicit user feedback

  2. Ability to understand the underlying code that powers the design

We believe attitude is as important as aptitude. Here is an absolute “must have”

Hands on approach with the ability to ‘deliver’ in a perpetually suboptimal environment (a.k.a. startup).

How long have you been doing this

Given that the first android powered phone was launched in Oct ‘08 = < 5 year ago, i suppose you can’t have more experience than that. So, don’t be shy about the ‘years of experience’ you have. We are more interested in what you can do rather than how long you’ve been doing it.

If you get the drift and if any of this interests you then write to me at khamir at trotez dot com and I’ll tell you why this is all worth your time. It’s a complete rollercoaster ride and we do hope you don’t suffer from motion sickness.

Job Perks

Firstly, this isn’t a Job, it’s an Opportunity!

Secondly, you would do this because you would get to work with some hardcore guys who know what they’re doing (we think!) learn a lot (for sure)..and the best part is..we don’t even charge you for it!
