Who we are

We are a lean team of guys (and girls) who’ve worked in some of the leading companies (Oracle, IBM, Cisco, InMobi) in the world over the past two decades, built businesses across the planet (Americas, Europe, Asia), built and managed teams across time zones (from PST to IST), survived the Internet bubble(s), operated in environments where we didn’t speak the language (Python or Portuguese) built startups from concept stages, failed, and dived in again to do another one.

In other words, we’ve been around, aren’t afraid to fail and are ready to take on the big guys in their own backyard…the Internet.

Our playground: the Internet

The role of technology in the travel domain is dramatically evolving and it’s ripe for disruption. The customer of an airline company is also the customer of a cab company, a hotel, a telecom service provider, a food & beverage company, an apparel company, a luggage company, a financial services company, an electronics retailer, an entertainment company and the list goes on. So many businesses trying to be relevant to the same traveler and the traveler having so much to choose from. All this in real time via the mobile internet.

Enter the world of ‘Big Data’. That’s the problem we are solving, in the travel context.

What we do

Identifying, capturing, storing, analyzing and applying data, in real time, using cloud-computing technologies. We provide the relevant information, in the right time in the right context and let the user act on it. Essentially, we match demand and supply through our platform and let consumers connect with businesses. The airlines call it dbCommerce, the online travel agents call it mCommerce and we call it a business.

Front-end Android Developer = the < 5 years experience person

As the title suggests, the dude or dudine who can actually build (and has built) applications that real people can use on their handsets. We are trying to do quite a bit with this so your skills need to be really sharp. And in case this is too generic for you, here are some specifics…

1.    You should have built apps that are actually out there in the google play store (or at least have been at some point)

2.     Familiarity with mobile apps like Phonegap

3.     Practical knowledge of data structures and algorithms

4.     An app that has a server API it needs to communicate with

5.     Java experience on android/eclipse developer

6.     Hands-on experience creating custom UI controls, consuming RESTful APIs

7.     Implementing delegate interfaces, animations

8.     Understanding of the nuances of fragments and android XML layouts, and how to create adaptive interfaces

9.    Experience with android SDK

10. And a strong understanding of computer science fundamentals that will compensate for whatever is missing

Here are some other “good to have’s”

Json, Python, NoSQL DB, Linux, Scripting, Web2py, http, SSL sessions, some experience in developing backend apps, building websites, security, Apache2

And here are the absolute “must have’s”

Hands on, real-world experience with the ability to ride a rollercoaster (aka startup) with trotez being part of your daily routine.

How long have you been doing this

Given that the first android powered phone was launched in Oct ‘08 = < 5 year ago, i suppose you can’t have more experience than that. So, don’t be shy about the ‘years of experience’ you have. We are more interested in what you can do rather than how long you’ve been doing it.

Your responsibilities will include

1.    Designing and developing new components that can scale

2.     Ability to think out of the box and design mobile applications

3.     Refactor as and when needed to ensure compact code base and optimal performance

4.    Be able to work on multiple components, which includes complex data flows, scalability and simplicity

If you get the drift and if any of this interests you then write to me at khamir at trotez dot com and i’ll tell you why this is all worth your time. It’s a complete rollercoaster ride and we do hope you don’t suffer from motion sickness.

Job Perks

Firstly, this isn’t a JOB!
